Layering Charles Helou Station

Charles Helou station has been neglected by people and became almost unnoticeable mainly because of the lack of use of it efficiently. The problems regarding Charles Helou are the lack of pedestrian accessibility from Pasteur Street, lack of waiting areas for travelers and lack of resting areas for the drivers. The intention of the project is to revive Charles Helou station by making it more visible and accessible to Gemmayze. Working with the layers of use of Pasteur Street, our project would be intensifying these layers allowing access, activity, circulation and program to happen along the site. The project could also be read through a series of façade systems that would become threshold of the project while moving through the different spaces. These thresholds when layered in the project could then read as an expression of private or communal spaces according to the functions between them. In addition, housing will be placed on top of the highway allowing for a series of densified affordable housing units strips. Finally, the project as a whole follows the strips systems to allow for program and main circulation to happen parallel to the site allowing for a clear elaboration of Pasteur Street in addition to keeping a constant visual connection with the Charles Helou Station.
